Education

92.2%University admission average

Valerie successfully balanced her chess career and education, achieving strong results in both. She graduated from Tommy Douglas Secondary School with the Ontario Scholar Award and a 92.2% university admission average. After receiving offers from several universities, she chose the Life Sciences program at the University of Toronto, where she is now preparing for a future career in medicine.

School Leadership & Volunteering

She organized training sessions and tournaments, prepared teammates for district competitions, coached developing players, and encouraged new students to join. Through her leadership and example, she helped make the club more active and significantly raised the team’s competitive level. While the captains and leading players of other school teams were usually boys, Valerie showed that girls could also lead a team and compete successfully.
